After graduation, my friends and I packed up and traveled to Kentucky in search of some new adventures. Well let me tell you, we found them. Some of us came back more scratched and bruised than others but we all came back with some pretty fun stories.
We drove through the night and got to Lake Cumberland, Kentucky in the morning after some games of tag at gas stations on the way down. In my mind, this lake was just going to be a regular lake like we would find in Michigan, people with cottages and boats and you can see all the way around. Umm.. no. This lake is HUGE and breathtaking. There are cliffs all around it and spots where the lake goes in all different directions. There is a bridge that goes across, there are tons of house boats, waterfalls, and some islands. The rocks around the lake are completely flat. Perfect for skipping.
We couldn't wait to swim so we found a place to jump in and started our adventures in the lake. This is when the moment came where I was like, "we're actually in Kentucky, a different state, by ourselves."
After that, we had to get our groceries, set up camp, and find another swimming spot. There was a huge waterfall that my friends jumped off of (I didn't because I was being a chicken). There were crosses by it and fences and signs saying "restricted area". #scary. They had fun and there were no more crosses added to the collection at the top. Even though I didn't jump, I still had fun watching them. Also, later on the trip I did become less of a chicken and jumped off a cliff.
Later we found another place to swim by our campground. It started storming but we kept swimming. I think that swimming in the rain is 10x more fun than when it's not. Just a personal opinion.
We got back to camp super tired and it was still kinda rainy but we made s'mores anyway... with cookie dough!
The next day was crazyyyy. We hiked and swam around a part of the lake from a boat launch for miles until we found the waterfall we were looking for. There was a huge cliff, higher than the waterfall (just want to make that clear) that we jumped off of into the water. That is now the highest ranked on my crazy things I've done list. For sure.
This trip was one of the greatest I've been on and the least costly. It was so nice not having a specific time and place we had to be at. We just went for it and went with the flow. After going, I notice how easy it is to have fun and go on some adventures.
